Re: Unstable clocksource

You are posting to an abandoned forum. You should not expect any future response or support here. It's been five years since I closed registrations due to lack of support. That said, your 'unstable clocksource' message is generated from the OS itself. PING is only capturing the info and reporting it...

Re: Bare metal restore support

It doesn't really do different hardware. It is simply an image snapshot backup/restore mechanism, and as such will do a bare-metal restore, but only to the same hardware.

Re: development?

Fraid not. No activity on PING from Natan, nor with Partimage, the partition imaging program for which PING is a wrapper program. It's pretty much as-is.

I am reluctantly disabling new user registration. There is no active development or support for these utilities, so there is little to be gained from new questions. Most real information is archived in the existing posts. I have no means to update the forum software, and I have been unsuccessful in ...

Re: PING only creates image for first of selected partitions

Partimage often barfs if there is a disk error, and it does not get reported back, it just makes the backup fail. Try a good disk diagnostic, maybe Seatools from Seagate and make sure the drive is error-free.

Re: Browse files on Image.

Sorry, but that's just not feasible with PING images. There is no accessible file information in the image. The image is based on disk layout, not file structure, so in order to gain file-oriented access, the image must be restored to a disk first, edited, then re-imaged. Here's a visual for you - l...

Re: Anyway to test the integrity of a created image

There is a log file created - /tmp/x.log , but since everything is run on a RAM disk, it is lost upon a reboot. You would have to select 'Get a shell' after creating the image in order to view it. As for automatic verification of the image, that is a little tougher. PING is only a script wrapper for...

In all honestly, I don't think that "thanks in advance" has ever been frowned upon in this forum, but that's just me, I suppose.

Re: Can't connect computer to save image to

Yeah, I seem to recall that Ping 3 was supposed to detect the absence of the partimage.zip files and install them onto the share, but it never worked right.

Re: Restoring to a different hardware fails

PING tries, by default, to restore an image to the partition whence it came. The hda/hdb/etc and sda/sdb/etc refer to drives, so if a backup is made of hda1 (first partition of hda, or IDE drive 0), then the image files will be named hda1xxxx, and it will, by default, restore to hda1. Same holds tru...

Re: Bad Sectors

PING has always been iffy with drive errors. I also tend to think that if the bad sectors are not in play, then you may be good, but it would be best if the bad sectors are MAPPED as bad. Seatools may help, or perhaps another disk repair tool, before PING'ing the drive. Also, be sure that you select...
