Re: How do i make incremental images?

PING doesn't actually shutdown your machine. Its to do with the way it calls the shutdown process. Your PC is in a state where it is safe to just hit the power button to knock the machine off but it won't shutdown on its own. Regarding making incremantal images, thats just not going to happen. PING ...

Re: number of connections with Ping

Yep. Windows XP from SP2 onwards restricts outgoing or incoming TCP/IP connections to a maximum of 10. Don't ask me why. There is a registry hack that can be done to increase the number. Just search it up on Google.

Re: Bootable USB Flash Drive question

The reason for this is obvious. The USB Drive you have has the ability to enable the partition to "Write Protected" using that switch. So if you turn it on before you take an image PING is going to see the partition as unavailable. If it can't write to it it's not going to be any good to P...

Re: Browse files on Image.

PING itself doesn't have the ability to open up a backup and read certain files out of it. However, PING is build on Partimage. If there is a Partimage tool that will allow you to mount the image you might be in luck but i've never looked into it.

Re: PING unable to create file

Your right it shouldn't. if you try it again will you choose the option to close out to a shell when it asks you what you want to do when it finishes. Then copy the x.log file out of the /etc directory and post it here. That might give us an idea of what the problem could be.

Re: New Beginner Question about PING

mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sda1 /mnt/dos Lets break it down. the "-t" tells the mount command to use the program "ntfs-3g" (no spaces between ntfs and -3g by the way) to mount the partition as linux doesn't have a default ability to read NTFS. "/dev/sda1" refers to the first...

Re: New Beginner Question about PING

Just incase you want to try and do it using the PING CD on its own you can login into the Shell and view the contents of your partitions to be sure your using the right one. Re: PING unable to create file

The most likely issue is a Driver incompatibility. Seeing as PING hasn't been updated in a while i'm now starting to run headlong into some funny issues that are hardware related on newer machines. Hope this helps in some way.

Re: New Beginner Question about PING

Hi Dave, Seeing as Ping is built on Linux the drive assignments follow the standard format found in LInux. In Linux drive carry the follow drive assignment : SDA1 or SDC3 or HDA2 Lets break down the first one for you : SDA1 Sata Disk A Partition 1 as above the 'SD' means "Sata Disk". The L...

Re: generic-usb error message

Sounds very similar to errors i've been getting of late. I'm using Ping 3.01 and we've recently upgraded to a new intel Motherboard DQ67WO series boards and PING now gives me a whole host of crazy errors that are obviously unsupported components in the new board. Only thing to do is wait for PING to...

Re: Newbie with restore problem.

Hi, Your going to have nothing but problems trying to restore your data that way. The DVD That you created will have the configuration to recreate the same partition table stored on it. If you try to restore it to a different partition your going to get an error. Nothing you can do about that really...

Re: Windows 7 imaging problem

There are some recognised problems with imaging Dell Machines as they normally have a special partition on the drive that PING interfere's with. However, I use ping daily to backup and image over 10 machines a day without any issues. Could you walk us through the whole backup process you choose when...

Re: Restore Help

Have you tried restoring it and telling the system not to resize the disk for any extra available space. Also start with a blank disc. You can also add the extra partitions that you may need afterward if the image drops successfully.

Re: Restore Image from Hidden Partition Without Installing Ping.

In the isolinux.cfg file you need to specify the partition to mount and the image name you want to restore. The details regarding this are in the Annex section.
