network issue with 3.01

Postby atourville » Thu Apr 14, 2011 11:42 pm

Have been having trouble with the 3.01 release in getting a DHCP address. If I manually bring the network down and then up I can get a dhcp address but not when I run the rc.ping script. It look slike the normal sleep of 2 issued during the network connection is not long enough anymore. This is happening on systems that have been working with earlier releases of PING. Is anyone else having this issue? Can the script be modified for a longer pause?
Thanks,
Andy

Hi,
I have the same issue with 3.01 on Dell optiplex 780 and dell latitude 4310. The 3.004 works fine on latidide but do not have latest e1000 driver for optiplex
The manual command order:
ifconfig eth0 down
ifconfig eth0 up
dhcpcd

Works fine.
Is there any guide how to change sleep of eth0 activation in rc.ping and build bootable ISO then?
Thanks

The manual commands work fine for us also but it is a complete pain. I have tried several times to create a rc.ping, with instructions from the forum but have not been sucessful. Making the sleep =4 works for us. Does anyone have an updated instruction to create a new rc.ping file by booting up to the PING 3.01 CD and saving teh new file created out to a network share. Thanks
Thanks,

Andy

Hi,
I've changed sleep 2 to sleep 5 in rc.ping, and recreated ISO.
Thanks to that tutorial (with some changes):

Dell Optiplex 790 and Latitude 4310 is booting fine now with DHCP

Anyone may find that customized iso here (available 90 days):
